India Wins Toss, Opts to Bat First Against Pakistan in 2023 Asia Cup
In the highly anticipated clash of the 2023 Asia Cup, India has won the toss and elected to bat first against arch-rivals Pakistan. This match marks the return of Jasprit Bumrah to the playing XI, while Suryakumar Yadav has been omitted to make way for Shreyas Iyer. Shreyas, who has made a successful comeback to the squad, was immediately included in the starting lineup.
Captain Rohit Sharma, speaking at the toss, expressed his team’s readiness to face the challenges, saying, “We are going to bat first. There is a bit of weather around, but can’t think much about it. Got to play good cricket, you need to embrace the challenge, embrace the situation. We had some time off after the West Indies series. Everyone was up for those drills and challenges in Bangalore. Let’s see what we can achieve in this tournament.”
“It’s a quality tournament with quality oppositions. At the end of the day, we need to see what we can achieve as a team. Iyer is back, Bumrah is back, and we got three seamers. Got two spinners – Kuldeep and Jadeja.”
Surprisingly, Mohammed Shami did not find a place in the playing XI, with Shardul Thakur getting the nod. Shardul is known for his wicket-taking abilities with the ball and can make valuable contributions with the bat.
The batting order also holds intrigue, with Virat Kohli listed as the number four batsman in the playing XI provided by the BCCI. Ishan Kishan is expected to bat at number 3, taking over the role in KL Rahul’s absence during the league stage of the Asia Cup.
